Windows will warn you, and here is why

The installer is not yet signed with a purchased code-signing certificate, so Windows SmartScreen will show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen and name the publisher as "Unknown publisher". That warning is accurate: it means nobody has paid a certificate authority to vouch for the name on this file. It is not a report that anything is wrong with the file. Whether to buy a certificate has not been decided yet, and this page says so rather than leaving you to guess.

What you do

1. Windows shows a blue box headed "Windows protected your PC".
2. Select "More info" in that box. It expands to show the app name and the line "Publisher: Unknown publisher".
3. Select "Run anyway".
4. Accept the User Account Control prompt that follows, which also shows an unknown publisher for the same reason.

Verify the file before you run it

You do not have to take our word for which file you got. Open PowerShell in the folder you saved it to and compare the checksum below against the one Windows computes.

The checksum below is the checksum of the file the button above points at. Both are read together, in the same request, from the record of the same published release, so the page cannot show you a number belonging to some other file.

After the free receipts

Nothing is charged until the included receipts are used. After that, governance is paid for by plan or by one-time pack; the current plans are listed on the pricing page. The desktop app itself stays free.
